I skulked around the net for workarounds to the issues I mentioned and it seems to me like the only thing preventing the 5D from kicking off some of the poorer-performing prosumer video cameras from the market is the lack of manual control and proper camera rigs. :)

I'm excited.

Nothing to do with the dreamy fuzz..it's the compression and color banding that make it a bit unforgiving. Fringing also seems rather bad in a lot of the shots, but I don't know it that's due to the lens like you said. :) Also, my friend just confirmed what I suspected- the video responds very poorly in post. The weaknesses are really to be expected though...there can't be a device that does everything fantastically (HD video that shoots full frame, has great DOF, high ISO, on relatively dirt cheap lenses...basically all the problems that prosumer video cameras have) yet priced at one-fourth the price of its video camera equivalent. That'd cause an uproar in the entire imaging industry. :)

I still want one though. :D

what do you mean when you say "video quality"? lensbabies make the video a bit fuzzy but i think that's the effect the maker wanted to achieve.

as for me, i think the 500D is a good alternative (at 1/3 of the price!) to the 5Dmk2 for the average shooter. it's like the plastic hybrid of 50D and 5Dmk2 haha

Cool concept. :D

Technically the video quality isn't very good, which I consider both a good and a bad thing. It's good because it means film professionals aren't wasting their time using cameras that are way more expensive than a 5DMk2...bad because well, I want a cheap camera that does awesome video, dammit. :P It's 1st-gen technology pa naman and it should get better in time though, so I'm confident we'll see much, much better incarnations of the same idea in the future.
